The canopy block is brush painted with white gel coat. To smoothen the brush pattern and get an even surface, red color is sprayed on, which helps while grinding off the excess gel coat.

 

 

 

 Grinding was done with 800, 1200 and 1500 grit, then the canopy block was polished and waxed with W70 about six times over a couple of days. It's shiny enough, I guess... 

 

Using a 0.3 mm mylar sheet and double sided tape, a quick setup for laminating the canopy mold is achieved. the mold is done with black mold resin, two layers of 50g/sqm glass and four 400g/sqm carbon weave in between.
